The year 2023 could be known as the breakthrough year for compact mechanical keyboards. In January of this year, Razer released the DeathStalker V2 Pro, a slimmer update to its popular Deathstalker mouse series. Instagram has been flooded with posts of the Nuphy Air75 and Air60. After Logitech introduced their compact MX Mechanical Keyboard, Corsair responded with their own tiny wireless model, the K100 Air.

When compared to the top gaming keyboards, which are often much taller, the K100 Air is an ultra-thin alternative that makes minimal concessions. In fact, it improves upon its predecessor by including the latest iteration of Cherry’s Ultra Low Profile Tactile switches, wireless and Bluetooth connectivity through Slipstream for up to three devices, a polling rate of 8,000Hz (0.125ms) via USB, and more. In addition to being a top-tier wireless keyboard, this model offers a battery life of up to 200 hours, making it a formidable contender in the market. This is a one-of-a-kind keyboard that has a lot to offer gamers and typists alike, but it won’t come cheap at $279.99.

Design

The astonishingly thin Corsair K100 Air. It measures a scant 0.43 inches (11 mm) at its thinnest and 0.67 inches (17 mm) at its thickest. It collapses entirely, giving the impression that it has chiclet keys like those of yesteryear. However, as you start typing on it, you’ll see that your assumptions were incorrect.

Cherry’s new Ultra Low Profile (ULP) Tactile switches make their debut in the K100 Air, our first keyboard to review them. They’re very different from standard MX switches in that they attach to the keycap with a spring and two metal wings instead of a single metal plate, but they nevertheless provide approximately 2 mm of travel and a pleasant tactile feedback. With a total height of just 3.5mm, they’re the ideal choice for a keyboard of this type and allow the keycaps to be placed closer to the plate than on any other low profile mechanical keyboard we’ve seen.
